If you choose not to use our group transfer option you can travel to your accommodation by train or there are multiple car hire options at Toulouse airport.
Organising your own Transfers to Pyrenean Accommodation
Direct trains operate to Tarascon sur Ariege, Ax les Thermes or Foix from Toulouse Airport, which are local to our Pyrenean accommodation. The train takes roughly 2 hours, costs approximately €15-25 Euros one way and depart every hour. To catch the train from Toulouse airport:
1. Take the Navette bus that leaves from outside the arrival hall of the Airport to Toulouse Matabiau railway station. The bus departs every 20 mins and takes 20-25 mins. Tickets can be bought in a booth opposite the bus stop for €5.
2. Take the train from Toulouse direct to Tarascon sur Ariege, Foix or Ax les Thermes depending on your trip information.
3. Your travel directions to the accommodation will be on your course information sheet.
Booking your air travel
Easyjet: Low cost airline with regular flights between many UK airports and European destinations to Toulouse. There are normally three flights a day coming from London Gatwick.
Ryanair: Flies to Carcassone from where you can catch the train to Toulouse train station. This can be time consuming, so it is better to organise a transfer, particularly if there are 2-4 people arriving on the same flight. There is a convenient shuttle service between the train station and the airport. Details on the shuttle bus can be found here.
British Airways: Offer competitive rates on flights to airports across Europe and from the UK to Toulouse when bookings are made well in advance.
Jet 2: There are Toulouse flights from Manchester, Leeds Bradford and Edinburgh May - October.
KLM and Air France: Offer flights to Toulouse from most other European destinations and some from further afield.
We have a large Decathlon store just down the road south of Foix which stocks a good range of most outdoor gear. Ski hire shops such as Telemark Pyrenees on the way to Ax and Sport 2000 deal with kit hire. If you are interested in super light weight materials for the Chemin de la Liberte we recommend PHD designs which offer online ordering given enough time.
If you are interested in discovering more about the local history, food or flora and fauna do ask and we will include this on your detailed trip information on booking.
